Types of Ovens & Cleaning Techniques

There are different types of home ovens on the market nowadays. Depending on the usage, budget and needs, you can select from 3 different types:
  • Conventional Ovens
  • Ceramic Ovens
  • Convection Ovens
First, it is important that before you clean your oven, you determine what cleaners and techniques should be used on the appliance.

Conventional Ovens and Convection Ovens
  • For conventional ovens, you can either chose a self-cleaning or regular oven.

  • For one that doesn’t hold the self-cleaning feature, you should get used to wipe up any spills and drips with a damp cloth after each time you use it. Just be careful to wait until it had cooled down if you don’t want to burn yourself. For hard stains that have been there for a while, we recommend to use a spray cleaner and a brush (be careful because it is toxic). Regular cleaning will prevent food from sticking up or burn onto the oven surfaces, which can cause a bad smell. You may also put an aluminum foil to cover the bottom of the oven to avoid spills and it whenever there is a spill.

  • The self-cleaning ovens are easy to use. The way it works is that it diminishes spills and drips to ashes and all you need to do is to wipe them away using a wet cloth at the end of the self-cleaning cycle. You should always make sure to open a window if you want to prevent smoke from sticking to walls and your ceiling and the bad smell generated by this feature. You should use the self-cleaning whenever you notice the oven is dirty.

Ceramic Ovens
  • Ceramic oven (also called textured ovens) are also known to be continuous cleaning ovens. They are made of a special textured surface, usually a ceramic layer that’s made to burn off food progressively as you use of the oven. Just as a self-cleaning oven, ceramic ovens require to be wiped down inside regularly
