Guidelines on How to Buy an Oven

On the process of buying an oven, there are several options to look at. And there are so many that you can easily get lost and become overwhelmed. Considering that ranges represent a considerable investment that they are long-term purchases, you'll want to make sure that your new oven fits perfectly in your kitchen and has all the features you're looking for. This article presents guidelines on how to buy a new oven.
 
Fuel types:
  
You have to consider what type of range you're looking for, an electric or, if gas is available in your home and your local area, you may think about a gas or dual fuel model. Also, you have to make sure your kitchen can accommodate a gas range if you select that type.
  • Electric oven: It is the popular type and it’s easy to fit in any kitchen. 
      
  • Gas oven: Gas may be natural or propane. It usually goes with what’s available in your local area. Proper ventilation has to be considered because they generate a lot of heat.  
       
  • Dual-fuel oven: It is usually made of a gas cooktop with an electric oven
      
Design features:
  
First, you have to make sure your kitchen can accommodate both types. More than often, it’s not a choice, but it depends on the installations you have.  There are three fuel types:
  • Freestanding ranges. They are most popular and the more economical to purchase. They standalone and have panels on each side.
      
  • Slide-in ranges: This type is similar to freestanding ovens, but don’t have side panels and have to be between cabinets.
      
  • Drop-in ranges: This type requires a built-in cabinet to drop into. They provide a great custom look.
      
Cooking Oven Preferences:
  • Conventional oven: Most popular and economical.
      
  • Convection oven: Uses air circulation to cook/bake quickly and evenly.
      
  • Trivection oven: Combines microwave, conventional and convection for quicker cooking.

Cooktop Options:
  • Coil burners: They are the most economical and easier to replace when an element burns out.
     
  • Open-coil burners: They coils on top of the range are in a concave position
     
  • Smooth-top burners:  They are completely flat and the heat comes from under a glass panel.
     
  • Ceramic top range: They very stylish and have become much more affordable.
